What very first started three years back by actress/producer Andrea Lewis as a form of self-love and structure confidence has become something much bigger than she expected. The former Degrassi star and mastermind behind the series Black Actress is releasing the inaugural Women's Empowerment Weekend.
While lots of Black women aspire careers in the entertainment/film industry, it's very rare to discover chances to sit it front of a panel of females who look like them asking concerns to those making the key decisions. The 2nd event, Self Love Tea Time with actress Keesha Sharp is a chance for females of color to have very candid discussions about self-love, life and sisterhood over tea.
Lewis shares the motivation on why she decided to keep going to develop this weekend. "My first occasion featured special star guest Essence Atkins and it was a pow wow of ladies sharing everything from their fears, their joy, their dreams and their goals and it was genuinely the makings of a sisterhood, says Lewis.
3 years later on, and over 100 videos committed to Self-Love Saturday on her Youtube page, Andrea Lewis seems on to something huge. It was looking for individual self-esteem that advanced her so far this journey. "I did it simply due to the fact that I had just invested nearly a year working on my self confidence and self awareness and I was extremely happy with how I felt about myself. At the time I was working and doing a play with a female who I felt was gorgeous however I also felt could use a little bit of encouragement but I didn't exactly understand how to say it. I chose to make a video saying everything I was thinking." Women's Empowerment Weekend will combine over 100 women of color in the same area to have these crucial conversations. The occasion also has plans to expand to markets such as New York and Chicago in the very future.
